アフリカのケヤキと呼ばれる木

空気に触れると深みのある赤褐色になるのが特徴でケヤキに少し似た雰囲気を持つため、日本ではアフリカケヤキとして神社仏閣用材に使用される。耐久性が高く、シロアリ害にきわめて強いため、悪条件下での構造物、橋、桟橋等の海中構造物に用いられることもある。重構造材や耐久構造材として第一級とされている。ドウシエ（Doussie）、アフゼリア（Afzelia)等とも呼ばれる
