One of the five traditional Kiso tree species
It came to be called nezuko because its wood is grayish in color. It is also known as kurobei and is one of the Kiso Five Trees.
Nezuko wood was used when the Yoshijima House, the residence of a wealthy merchant and an Important Cultural Property in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, was rebuilt. The main reception room’s ceiling features striking nezuko wood with beautiful figuring.
It is mainly used for building materials, ceiling boards, low Japanese tables, geta, and bentwood ware. Its bark has also been used to make fire-carrying cords.
