a rare, elusive prized timber
It is renowned as one of the world’s three great hardwoods, alongside walnut and teak, and is also known as “green gold.” Durable and easy to work with, its beautiful sheen and golden reddish-brown grain are considered the pinnacle of furniture woods, and it is also popular for making guitars. Today, due to extensive overharvesting, trade in it is restricted under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
