肌目は緻密で上品な風合が特長で、赤身の濃いマカバは入手困難な希少樹種である。世界大戦期には飛行機のプロペラ材料として用いられ、高性能な材と評価された。近年では天然林の伐採量の減少から流通量も減少し、それに伴い風合いも評価されるようになった。現在では高級材として家具材、内装材、建材、ピアノのハンマーをはじめとした楽器材などに使われる。

Its fine, dense grain and elegant texture are its defining characteristics. Makaba with a deep reddish heartwood is a rare species that is difficult to obtain. During the World Wars, it was used to make airplane propellers and was regarded as a high-performance wood. In recent years, the volume available on the market has declined as logging in natural forests has decreased, and its distinctive texture has consequently come to be appreciated. Today, it is used as a premium wood for furniture, interior finishes, building materials, and musical instruments, including piano hammers.
