Wood used by Native Americans
Also known as the Yellowwood, this tree is native to the southeastern United States. Its name comes from its freshly cut heartwood, which has a distinct yellow color. In the past, the bark of its roots was used to produce a yellow dye. The Cherokee people used this wood for both carving and building. Today, it is widely grown as an attractive ornamental tree.
