「森の香り」の木

雪の多い地方でしか育たないといわれる青森ヒバは、木目も細かく美しいのが特徴。直径７０ｃｍになるには、杉の３倍の年月、約３００年かかる。長い歳月で培った強固で細やかな木目により、水にも強く腐りにくい。「森林の香り」と言われるヒノキチオールを多く含み、抗菌効果、精神安定効果、防虫効果、消臭・脱臭効果などがあるため、住宅の構造や内装の高級材としての用途以外にまな板やお風呂用品としても好まれる。

"Forest scent" tree

Aomori hiba, said to grow only in regions with heavy snowfall, is known for its fine, beautiful grain. It takes about 300 years—three times as long as cedar—to reach a diameter of 70 cm. Its strong, fine grain, developed over many years, makes it water-resistant and slow to decay. Rich in hinokitiol, known as the “scent of the forest,” it has antibacterial, calming, insect-repellent, deodorizing, and other properties. As well as being used as a premium material for home construction and interiors, it is popular for cutting boards and bath products.
