ゴヨウマツやキタゴヨウと呼ばれることもあり、松の中では硬い部類に入る。年輪幅が細かく緻密なため、鋸も入りやすく鉋掛けやロクロ挽きにも適している。建具や、楽器材、彫刻などにも用いられる。

It is also sometimes called goyō-matsu or kita-goyō. It is among the harder types of pine. Its fine, dense growth rings make it easy to saw and suitable for planing and woodturning. It is also used for fittings, musical instruments, and sculpture.
