世界一重く硬い緑色の木
非常に小型の樹木で樹高は3ｍ程度、直径30㎝程度までしか成長しない。平均比重が約1.25と常に水に沈むほど極めて重硬な木質であるため、木工機械での加工は困難で金属加工機で加工することもある。船舶のプロペラ軸受やボーリングの球にも使用され、数珠や印鑑用材としても人気。茶褐色から経年変化により濃緑褐色になる。
The heaviest and hardest green wood in the world
A very small tree, growing to only about 3 m tall and 30 cm in diameter. With an average specific gravity of around 1.25, its exceptionally dense, hard wood sinks in water; it is difficult to work with woodworking machinery, and is sometimes processed using metalworking equipment. It is used for ship propeller shaft bearings and bowling balls, and is also popular for prayer beads and stamp seals. Its color ranges from tea brown to dark greenish brown as it ages.
