The tree depicted on the Canadian flag

A tree in the genus Acer, family Sapindaceae, the same family and genus as Japanese maples.
The Canadian flag features the leaf of the sugar maple, a type of maple famous for its maple syrup. Its wood is relatively lighter in color than that of Japanese maples and is widely used for furniture, interior finishes, musical instruments, and other purposes.
