ホオノキに似た木

ホオノキと同じモクレン科に属し、材質もよく似ている。木肌は緻密で加工しやすく、玩具や木工品などに用いられてきた。薪炭材として利用されるほか、ホオノキに近い性質を生かしてさまざまな用途に使われている。

A tree resembling a Japanese bigleaf magnolia

It belongs to the same family, Magnoliaceae, as the Japanese bigleaf magnolia, and its wood is very similar. The grain is fine and easy to work, so it has traditionally been used for toys and other woodcrafts. In addition to being used for firewood and charcoal, it serves a variety of purposes thanks to properties similar to those of the Japanese bigleaf magnolia.
