中国の福建省が産地のため、フッケンヒバとも呼ばれている。台湾ヒノキの代用材として輸入されたこともある。
日本の桧と比べて木目が細かいのが特徴で、日本の寺社仏閣建築や和風高級建築にも使用されている。
また、木の中の油分が多く水に強いため脱衣場などの水回りにも最適である。

Wood that also supports Japan’s temples and shrines

Because it comes from Fujian Province in China, it is also known as Fujian cypress. It has also been imported as a substitute for Taiwanese cypress.
Compared with Japanese cypress, its grain is finer. It is used in the construction of Japanese temples and shrines, as well as in high-end traditional Japanese-style buildings.
It is also rich in natural oils and resistant to water, making it ideal for wet areas such as changing rooms.
