湿潤を好み強靭な根を持つため、先人が水害防止対策として川や池の周りに植えられた実績がある。そのため、川の流域や低湿地などによく見られる木である。かつては、茎を編んでカバンを作り、旅行用カバンや収納カゴとしても使用された。

A tree that blends into the scenery around rivers and ponds

Because it thrives in moist conditions and has strong roots, it was planted around rivers and ponds in the past as a flood-control measure. As a result, it is commonly found in river basins and low-lying wetlands. Its stems were once woven into bags, which were used as travel bags and storage baskets.
