ヒノキと兄弟のような木

ヒノキに似た日本特産種で、ヒノキに比べて、さわらか(さっぱり軽軟)な木の意。木曽地方・飛騨地方に多く、江戸時代には木曽五木の１つに指定され保護されていた。吸湿・放湿性がよく水分による変形が少ないため、戸障子の枠にも使用されている。匂いが少ないことから、飯びつ、箸、風呂桶、漆器の下地材などに使用。殺菌作用があるため、松茸など食品の下の敷物としても使われる。

It is a Japanese special type similar to Japanese cypress, compared to Hinoki, Sisaka (light and soft) meaning of tree. Many in Kiso district and Hida district, it was designated and protected as one of Kiso Itsuki in the Edo period. Because moisture absorption and moisture release are good and deformation due to moisture is small, it is also used for the frame of Todoko. Because it has little odor, it is used for drinks, chopsticks, bathtubs, basement materials for lacquerware. Because it has bactericidal action, it is also used as a rug under food, such as matsutake.
