ケヤキと似た木目が特長で、国産の木の中では一番色が白く美しい。肥えた土地に自生するので、北海道開拓時代はこの木が農地開墾の適地の目印であった。家具材、合板材、楽器、彫刻などとして使用される。
beautiful, white, lightweight wood
It is characterized by a grain similar to zelkova and is the whitest and most beautiful of Japan’s native woods. Since it grows wild in fertile soil, during the development of Hokkaido this tree was used as an indicator of land suitable for cultivation. It is used for furniture, plywood, musical instruments, and sculpture.
