まっすぐな木目で家具に最適な木

木目はタモに似ており、年輪ははっきりしていて目立つ。硬質で、弾力性に富み加工性が良い。洋家具、書棚、陳列棚、仏壇などには最も良い材のひとつである。曲げ木として利用することもあるが、近年産出量が激減している。

Wood with a straight grain, ideal for furniture

Its grain resembles that of ash, with distinct, prominent growth rings. It is hard, resilient, and easy to work. It is one of the finest woods for Western-style furniture, bookcases, display shelves, and Buddhist altars. It is also sometimes used for bentwood, but its production has declined sharply in recent years.
