世界三大銘木のひとつにも数えられる、世界の最高級材のひとつ。木理はまっすぐで重硬で耐水・耐湿性にも優れている。木材の王様とも言われており、豪華客船クイーンエリザベス号の甲板や内装、オリエント急行にも使用されている。木自体に天然の油成分があるため、オイルやニスで手入れしなくてもある程度の耐久性を保つところも美点。

The king of wood, superior in every way

One of the world’s finest timbers, it is counted among the three most prized woods in the world. Its grain is straight, and the wood is dense, hard, and highly resistant to water and moisture. Often called the king of woods, it has been used for the decks and interiors of the luxury ocean liner Queen Elizabeth, as well as on the Orient Express. The wood’s natural oils are another advantage, helping it remain durable to a certain extent without the need for oil or varnish treatments.
