柾目の美しい木

針葉樹としては重硬な材質で木目が詰まり糸のような柾目（糸柾）が美しいため建材として用いられる他、樹皮からタンニンを取り漁網を染めるのに使われた。また、秋篠宮文仁親王のお印に用いられている。 柱、長押、敷居などの建築材、梱包材などに使用される。
