神代から贈られた神々しい大木
神代木とは、樹木が地震や洪水、噴火などによって埋もれた際、酸素が遮断され分解・腐敗することなく数百年から数千年を経た、半ば炭化した埋れ木である。非常に希少価値の高い銘木であり、炭化がさらに数万年進んだものは石炭となる。スギは白から青みがかった黒へと変化をとげ、美しい木目をみせる。工芸品や天井板などの材料として珍重される。
A majestic tree bestowed by the gods in the age of myth
Jindai-boku is partially carbonized buried wood that has been preserved for hundreds or thousands of years without decomposing or rotting, after trees were buried by earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, or other events and deprived of oxygen. It is an extremely rare and valuable type of timber; wood that has undergone further carbonization over tens of thousands of years becomes coal. Japanese cedar changes from white to a bluish black, revealing a beautiful grain. It is prized as a material for crafts and ceiling panels.
