漢方薬にもなる黄色い木
ミカン科の落葉広葉樹で木の皮は黄色。光沢があり、杢目が非常に上質で美しいので家具材、建築内装材、鏡台や経木、アイヌの木彫りにも使われる。黄色い樹皮を乾燥させ、コルク質を取り除くと生薬や漢方薬として知られる黄檗になり、消化促進、炎症を抑えるといった効果が得られる。
A yellow tree also used in herbal medicine
A deciduous broadleaf tree in the citrus family, it has yellow bark. Its lustrous wood has exceptionally fine, beautiful grain, making it suitable for furniture, architectural interiors, dressing tables, thin wood sheets, and Ainu woodcarvings. When the yellow bark is dried and its corky outer layer removed, it becomes known as ōbaku, a medicinal herb used in traditional Chinese medicine, and is believed to aid digestion and reduce inflammation.
