A prized wood with a grain resembling black persimmon

It is characterized by a distinctive grain in which stripes run through straight-grained wood, creating a bubbly pattern. It was named Siamese persimmon because its grain resembles that of black persimmon, but it belongs to the borage family and is botanically unrelated to persimmon trees. It is used for Buddhist altar fittings, flooring and interior trim, ship interiors, furniture veneer, sculptures, and ornaments.
